After months of searching, you\u2019ve finally found your dream home. You have all the paperwork in order and you\u2019re about ready to put your feet up. But there\u2019s one thing left… You still have to move! To make this daunting task a little easier, myLIFE has put together a handy list of things to consider when getting organised. Stick to it, and you can settle in without a care in the world. We promise!<\/p>\n

The whens and hows of moving out<\/h2>\n

Moving day is no time for improvisation. Plan ahead and begin preparing for your move at least three months in advance, or you may be in for some unpleasant surprises. You can start by asking yourself these three questions:<\/p>\n

1. When is the best time for you to move?
\n<\/strong>If possible, try to avoid school breaks, the summer holidays and the end of the year. Moving companies are in high demand during these periods, and prices tend to rise. Instead, pick a time at the beginning of the year (from January to March) or from late September to early December, on a weekday if possible.<\/p>\n

2. Are you required to give notice?
\n<\/strong>If you rent your home, you will have to inform your landlord that you\u2019re leaving. Normally, this must be done three months in advance (although some leases may stipulate a longer notice period). Take the time to check, or you might find yourself paying rent even after you leave!<\/p>\n

3. Will you need to use a moving company?
\n<\/strong>Using a professional moving company will save you time and energy, and will mean your belongings are insured if any damage is done. But the cost of this service can vary wildly depending on the amount of things you have to move, the date you select and the scope of what you want done (packing and unpacking included, transportation only, etc.).<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve answered these three questions, it\u2019s time to put your plan into action. Boxes at the ready!<\/p>\n

In Luxembourg, you are entitled to two days of extraordinary leave when you move, which can only be taken at that time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

3 months before the move<\/h2>\n

> Notify your landlord or real\u00a0estate agency<\/strong><\/p>\n

To successfully end your lease<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, you must write to your landlord or the agency responsible for your home, sending the letter by registered post with proof of receipt.<\/p>\n
