Each year, from the end of January to the beginning of February, a new edition of the Luxembourg Autofestival puts car dealerships across the country into a frenzy. Among the new models and amazing discounts, you\u2019ll probably find what you\u2019re looking for. However, be careful not to succumb to temptation without taking time to reflect.<\/p>\n

Like with any investment, buying a car requires careful preparation and forethought<\/u><\/strong><\/a> if you want to maximise your chances of making the right choice.\u00a0From preparation to purchase, here are the steps to follow to make your car project a success!<\/p>\n

Luxembourg drivers\u2019 interest in electric vehicles<\/u><\/strong><\/a> has been growing steadily for years. In 2024, around 40% of new registrations were for electric cars or plug-in hybrid engines. The advantages of electric cars include low maintenance, zero CO2<\/sub> emissions, low energy consumption and the government incentives granted to date. On the other hand, their weak points include their range, battery cost and recycling, purchase price and recharging time.<\/p>\n

Whatever you decide, buying a car is a major investment (vehicle cost, revenue stamp, maintenance, insurance, fuel, etc.). If your finances allow it, you can use your cash savings to reduce your monthly payments or to avoid taking out a loan.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no such thing as small savings. Some simple rules of thumb<\/u><\/strong><\/a> will help you keep the costs of your car down, both at the time of purchase and day-to-day. Vehicles from driving schools and rental agencies that are still in very good condition can also save you money.<\/p>\n

Keep an eye out for government grants and eco-bonuses for the purchase of certain vehicles, as well as the reimbursement of certain taxes. For example, it is possible, under certain conditions, to benefit from aid of up to \u20ac6,000 for the purchase of certain new electric vehicles or from aid of \u20ac1,500 for the acquisition of a used electric vehicle. Finally, adopting economical driving habits also allows you to save a few euros.<\/p>\n

Give your car a new lease of life<\/h2>\n

If, after a few years, you want to resell your car<\/u><\/strong><\/a>, you\u2019ll again have to go through a few administrative formalities. These include having the car valued, drawing up an invoice, contacting a dealer or garage for an attractive trade-in, or searching online.<\/p>\n
