Quiz: What are you like behind the wheel?

  Compiled by myLIFE team me&myFAMILY March 4, 2019 3615

Are you the kind of driver who always lets people in ahead of you and never forgets to indicate, or are you more likely to put your foot down and beep your horn? Some road users are constantly on the lookout for hidden dangers, whereas others like to imagine that they’re racing drivers belting around a circuit rather than Joe Bloggs on his daily commute. What kind of driver are you?

Of course, nothing is ever black and white. There are many different types of driver out there, all with varying levels of caution, and your behaviour may depend on the circumstances. But do you know which category best suits you? Fill out our fun quiz to find out – the answer might just surprise you!

What are you like behind the wheel?
The “perfect driver”

For you, driving is about getting from A to B – no more and no less. You’re calm and alert when you drive. You favour security and caution when you’re behind the wheel of your car. You never leave without your documents and always follow the highway code to the letter: you’re always in the right position as you go round roundabouts, never miss an opportunity to thank another road user and never run through an amber light (or a red light, but that goes without saying!) You pride yourself on being a courteous driver.

Congratulations! If there were more drivers like you on the road, driving would be nicer for everyone.

The “tolerant driver”

You don’t find driving stressful; in fact, you enjoy it. If a driver who fancies themselves as a bit of a Speedy Gonzales comes along you don’t get annoyed. You just pull over to the side of the road to let them past. On the whole, you’re fairly cautious, but you do slip up occasionally. You know that that’s to be expected though – nobody’s perfect! And you’re right about that. Since you’re all about fair play, you have the same philosophy when it comes to other drivers: you’re very understanding.

Your tolerance for other drivers is admirable and it helps you to better anticipate the reactions of other road users. Carry on being alert and give yourself a little pat on the back for your self-control!

The “stressed-out driver”

Driving is an ordeal for you. You’re tense before you even get into your car. Other people’s driving, the traffic conditions, parking, manoeuvres – everything makes you anxious. In the past, you’ve even cancelled your plans because you were too scared to be behind the wheel. You’re acutely aware of everything that’s going on around you and tend to lose control if something unexpected happens: you’ve even turned on the windscreen wipers instead of the indicator in a panic!

Why not use a satnav with real-time traffic updates to take the stress out of driving a bit? That way you could plan your journeys and avoid any nasty surprises. If you don’t see the situation improving and the stress really gets too much, maybe it’s time to look into a car pool or public transport instead!

The “scatterbrain driver”

Driving is your way to unwind. You use it as an opportunity to let your mind wander, listen to music, watch the world go by, etc. Sometimes you even eat or check your phone (which is against the law, don’t forget!) You are easily distracted and tend to pay closer attention to whoever’s in the passenger seat than the traffic. In short, you drive when you’re behind the wheel, but that’s not all you do. Lost in thought, you sometimes arrive at home and can’t remember the route you’ve just taken or even take the wrong route altogether!

A word of advice: wake up! You’re not the only person on the roads. Clear your head, put down your sandwich, look away from your phone and focus on what’s happening in front of you! Your safety and everyone else’s is at stake.

The “hot-headed driver”

You can’t bear it when another driver cuts you up or forgets to indicate at a roundabout. And you never fail to let them know how you feel! In the past, you’ve even tailed a driver to make sure they knew you were annoyed. You have your windows down, so it’s usually you we hear swearing in traffic jams. You’re not afraid to use your horn when you need to and you’re certainly not sparing! After all, if you don’t, who will?

Take a deep breath before getting behind the wheel. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. Smile. The road isn’t a battlefield, so maybe you should put down your weapons.

“Captain Arrogance”

You’re convinced you’re the best driver in the world and perfectly in control of your vehicle. You only ever deviate from the highway code for good reason (in your eyes). After all, the highway code doesn’t apply to you. It’s for other people. And with good reason: you’re convinced that other drivers are a danger to the public and don’t know how to drive.

The best driver always leads the pack, so you hate being overtaken and you even accelerate when someone has the nerve to try to get past you. You’re a speed demon, you love to be first and you do everything you can to win a place on the podium.

You think you can do whatever you want on the roads, but don’t forget to expect the unexpected. Concentrate on your driving instead of everyone else’s and above all try not to have such a heavy right foot! Your unpredictability could prove fatal.
